Consultancy and research focus on developing and mainstreaming
solutions for adaptation to climate change.
Climate change will, in the short- to medium term, strongly affect social, environmental and economic development of nations, communities and individuals. While ‘mitigation’ refers to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions to limit climate change in the long term, ‘adaptation’ is considered as the adjustment of human or eco-systems to consequences of climate change in the short to medium term.
Today’s mitigation efforts can only reduce the pace of climate change; they can so far not correct the failures of the past. Climate change is to a certain extent already happening and developing countries are suffering most from these changes.
This is due to low economic capacities to finance adaptation action and research, difficult political and institutional framework conditions and constraints in climate change related knowledge and information.
Climate change is affecting diverse sectors, such as water, agriculture, health, energy and transport. To avoid negative effects to the highest possible extent, concentrated action is now required to mainstream adaption into all kinds of development policies and projects, to assist in capacity development, to support countries in NAP development and implementation and to provide access to finance to implement adaptation measures.
