Consultancy and research foster natural resources preservation through
integrated waste management, circular economy and source-to-sea thinking.
In its work EDCM reflects the Ecosystem Approach, as developed and promoted under the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). Apart from their intrinsic value, ecosystems provide goods to the people, such as food and water. They further have important regulating functions and serve as emission sinks or flood control. In addition, they are of cultural value, as they provide, for example, recreation or spiritual enrichment.
However, competing forms of resource use can lead to allocation conflicts between different stakeholders and over exploitation endangers the sustainability of the ecosystems. The Ecosystem Approach is a general strategy to balance the needs for human development with ecosystem health based upon principles of fairness and equity. It covers both requirements: preservation of natural resources as well as their sustainable use in an adaptive and flexible way.
Consulting services emphasize on the preservation of natural resources through integrated waste management approaches, circular economy and source-to-sea thinking.
